The Wii & G-Cube - A Tale of Two Consoles

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Offering fresh and innovating gaming consoles, Nintendo is held in lofty regards by gamers the world over. However, since the promotion of the Nintendo Wii, scores of devoted followers have been confused. Wrongly thinking that the Wii and the GameCube to be the same console.

Those "confused" gamers may be right. When the Wii was conceived, only the designing software was enhanced. Which means all Game-cube games can still be used with the Wii operating system as Stated by a chief staff member at Nintendo. The chief staff member continued on implying that all Game-cube game titles are "flexible" so savvy gamers are able to use a Wii-mote while playing a Game-cube game.

This information has been on the net for years now, but fans of the Nintendo wii seem to have forgotten about it. Another retarded story passing around is that the Wii is just a re-packaged Game-cube. Chill, forget about the BS regarding hardware details, and leave that to the software makers.

Both systems are different, enough said. Forget about the inside. If you are having fun playing the games and kicking galactic butt, who cares? Nothing will change the fact that Nintendo Wii is the most up-to-date game console on the market today; it continually outsells consoles made by Microsoft and Sony.

With Nintendo Wii's ground-breaking technology, the competitor's are sunk. When you want a truly unique gaming experience the Wii is the best. The Nintendo Wii has no age boundaries. The Nintendo Wii is the best "get together" & Party gaming console available on the market.

To surmise. The consoles are members of the same class even though they have basic differences. You cannot compare one from the other by design alone. As long as Nintendo Wii can offer quality games that the whole family enjoys, it will remain superior on the market. Get the Nintendo Wii now and if you have GameCube discs, you can also use them with the Wii.

You've read all the reviews, you know the facts. Nintendo wii game console is the #1 system world wide. Wii is extremely fun and years ahead of the competition with virtual game controllers. only problem is they are very hard to get, you can get one right here, right now, just do it.

Everyone Loves To Wear A Hat - What Kind Are You Going To Wear To The Party?

Thursday, April 9, 2009

Let your imagination run wild. You can find party hats in all sorts of colors and styles. Party hats can be found in the usual paper constructed cone shaped variety to the fancy party hats worn to events such as Halloween, New Years Eve, or themed parties, etc.

If you are having a western themed party, why not step it up a notch and buy some cowboy hats for your guests to complete the theme. You can take the theme even farther by adding a bandana worn around your neck.

Hats are also available that are made from plastic that is injected into a mold. These hats can be found in various styles such as construction hats, fire chief hats, and camouflaged army hats. The fun thing with these hats is that after the party is over, the children can take them home with them and use them again when they are playing.

Another great idea is to purchase a bunch of different types of hats and let your guests decorate them in their own style. Take a trip to your local craft store and youll be amazed with all the items that are available. These items dont need to be expensive. You can buy confetti, buttons, silk flowers, beads, etc. If your party has a theme, try to find items that coordinate with the theme. Even if it does not make sense when you are selecting these items, your guests might just surprise you with their creations!

To do this, youll need to set up a couple of tables. Set one table up as a work station. Youll want to place some chairs around it and have several glue guns available. On the second table, place the various items you have purchased to hot glue onto their hat.

You can even give out prizes to the guests who have the best hats. Awards can be given based on the most creative hat, the most colorful hat, etc. This can be a great way to get guests to mingle with others that they might not have otherwise.

What does Media Arts and Animation Degree Online Program have to Offer?

The presentation of any product is one of the key factors on which the sales ratio rely completely. Of course the product has to maintain the quality standards but other than that, to sell a product, it needs to be well presented. Apart from sales perspective, when it comes to entertainment, it's very important to make things look as real as possible on screen. For instance, a film is being shot and there is a stunt sequence in which the actor has to jump from a very tall building. Now in this sort of a scenario it's pretty likely that the actor will deny to shoot that scene (unless it's Tom Cruise) because of a lot of risks involved and the stunt sequence is also very necessary for the movie to progress. So instead of risking a human life, that stunt could be performed on a computer screen using a graphic designing software and thanks to so much of the hard work from the industry, its really not that hard to create stunts like that. Media Arts and Animation Design has traveled a long way. There were days when simple JPEGs and GIFs images were created on Corel Draw but now there are advance graphic designing software programs like 3D Studio Max, Adobe Photo-shop and Adobe Flash which creates high definition graphics. These software programs have unlimited possibilities and it all depends on the imagination and the creativity of the graphic designer that how he/she does that. The tools are there to create a perfect motion picture using nothing more than a computer system but it's very important to learn those tools first in order to be on the top of your game. For that matter, many top accredited online universities and top accredited online colleges are offering Media Arts and Animation Degree Online program. Media Arts and Animation Degree Online module is basically a branch of Visual Communication Degree programs. If you choose to get into any of the top accredited online university or top accredited online colleges to learn the art of animation and design then this degree could be the best option for you.

To learn animation and design, a lot of tolerance and skills are required. Outsourcing Software - Go For IT!

Monday, April 6, 2009

Without the outsourcing of their software development, there are many international conglomerates which would be facing dwindling profits and angry shareholders. All the software giants, including Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, and Dell have taken to outsourcing software development in a big way, and their favorite outsourcing partners are Indian companies. Wipro, TCS, and Infosys are recognized as IT companies perfectly capable of handling the outsourcing needs of the big software players on the other side of the globe.

Outsourcing Software Needs To India

In the early days of outsourcing, the typical outsourced business project was a non-core operation which was deemed too insignificant to be done by highly paid in-house employees. There were many Indian companies happy to take on these outsourced jobs, but as the Indian workforce became more and more versed in IT management, the Fortune 500 companies bagan to see them in a new light.

Today more than half of the Fortune 500 companies turn to Indian IT firms like TCS and Wipro to design, alter, and maintain their IT systems, and the Indian IT companies have seen their balance sheets and market capitalizations reflect the results. With over two billion dollars in annual revenues, and a market cap exceeding twenty billion dollars, the Indian companies are now in the same league as Adobe and Accenture.

Small Businesses Can Outsource Software Needs As Well

But outsourcing software needs is not limited to the mega-software companies; today there are hundreds of smaller businesses looking at outsourcing as an attractive alternative in their struggle to decrease their expenses and get technological input which their in-house staff might not be capable of providing. When outsourcing their software needs, these companies can choose to turn some, or all of them over to developers in other parts of the world, and may outsource different parts of the same software project to different IT service providers.

Business process outsourcing; software development outsourcing; knowledge process outsourcing; all are IT outsourcing projects which, while they can be done by a companys onsite employees, are simply less expensive when turned over to qualified IT workers in countries with lower wage structures and taxes.

The market for software is going to continue to expand, and software development is the future of the IT industry. Outsourcing software development to proven IT companies in developing countries like India whose workers have established themselves as the equal of any IT workers in the world will keep software development costs low, and the prices of the most advanced software within the reach of the businesses which continue to depend on it.

3D Decoupage Sheets - How to Make Your Own

Sunday, April 5, 2009

Making your own 3D decoupage sheets is easy - if you are making greeting cards, make sure you choose an image that is well defined but still small enough to fit nicely onto the card blank. Use a photo editor, Word or graphics package such as Paint Shop Pro to put 4 copies of the image on one sheet. For card making you are unlikely to need more but the beauty is, you can always print as many as you 'do' need! Print onto good quality inkjet paper - 120gsm, satin finish is good. Normal printer paper is likely to be too thin. Cut out your design, looking to see which elements in the image would naturally fall in the middleground and foreground, and start playing! Where do you get images from?

The internet offers an endless supply of free clip art and graphics that would be suitable. A nice idea for kids is to find pictures of their favourite characters and turn those into 3D decoupage paper! Watch out for copyrighted images though - if you plan to sell your cards do not use images that were created by someone else without their permission. A source of FREE 'copyright free' or 'royalty free' images are those in the Public Domain or created under a Creative Commons License. Copyright concerns can seem a complex area; basically, if you are doing cards for your own limited use, don't worry. But, if you are going to sell your cards, or 'mass reproduce' them, check out where you stand first. If in doubt, don't use it.

Dover Publications are a great resource for images - their books are intended to be used as design resources and you are allowed to create a limited amount of the same design (usually ample even for a home run card making business). If you sign up for their newsletter, you will get free image samples each week by email! When using images, always look for 'Terms of Use' or an 'Angel Policy'. Note that rubber stamps are NOT automatically copyright free, you need to check with each manufacturer/designer. Commercial software programmes such as Greeting Card Factory Deluxe or Hallmark come with a large collection of some wonderful fine art which you could use for personal use. These are also ideal for making your own decoupage paper, as you lay it all out on your screen using the software.

I'm Dreaming of a Pink Christmas

Saturday, April 4, 2009

With summer warmth still lingering in the air (at least in the afternoons here in the Northeastern US), it's hard to turn your mind to Christmas, but in reality it's only two months away. Yikes! I'm not a terrible procrastinator, but every year, I somehow convince myself that Christmas is far off, and end up spending the last two weeks before the holiday in a manic shopping frenzy. This year will be different. I will start early, and I will find the perfect gift for everyone!

Since I adore everything pink (electronics in particular) and I know a lot of you do too, I thought I'd share some of my perfect pink discoveries (ordered from least to most expensive) with you.

Tea rose colored and nostalgia-inducing, the Princess Phone by Crosley is small, classy and indisputably feminine. Originally introduced in 1959, it has been updated with modern technology (push buttons, flash/redial and volume control) but has thankfully kept its looks. It's corded, which is a good thing - recent research suggests that cordless home phones expose you to dangerous levels (100 times more than cell phones) of electromagnetic radiation.

Sony's bubble gum colored portable DVD player DVP-FX820/P is great for watching movies on the go. While not the most imaginatively named, is does have a lot of terrific features such as an incredibly clear, crisp 8" HD swivel screen with 800x480 resolution, an external (but fits like an internal) battery which lasts up to 6 hours (tip: turning the LCD brightness level down extends the battery life), two headphone jacks, remote control and a car adapter.

The totally adorable metallic champagne pink Nikon CoolpixS60 is a digital camera which is not only a joy to look at, it's loaded with great features: 10 megapixels (meaning flawless, sharp prints up to 16x20), a 3.5" touch panel which lets you focus on a specific subject just by touching it on the screen, face-recognition, which finds the face(s) in a picture even in low light or when they're moving around, 3 different anti-blur modes, automatic red eye removal, 17 different modes including the more unusual "food", "party" and "museum" settings, and it weighs only 5.1 oz.

The iPod touch is a marvelous sleek "toy" with some terrific features: a phenomenal music player, video playback, a Safari Web browser, photo viewer, an e-mail reader and lots of other components such as weather, calendar, maps, and stocks. How about taking that toy one step further and adding some gold to it? That's precisely what Continental Mobiles, an online British luxury shop, has done. They offer the iPod touch (as well as several other iPod models) encased in 18k rose gold, adding even more sophistication to an already uber-posh gadget.

With the look of a designer handbag, Ego laptops are without a doubt the most stylish and chic notebooks I have ever seen. Made by Ego Lifestyle in the Netherlands, these gorgeous computers come in a variety of designs (check out the pale pink Destiny or the cerise Flamingo), but if you don't see anything you like, they can customize them for you. Ego's laptops are currently available in the US from Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC and Avant Gallery in Miami Beach, and in the UK at Selfridges and Harrods in London and at Gassan Diamonds at Heathrow Airport.

I hope I have given you a bit of inspiration for finding the perfect gifts for your family and friends. Remember, it's never too early to start shopping for the holidays!

Canon PowerShot A590IS - The Sophisticated Camera For the Simple Photographer

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

If there's a gadget lover and a geek who loves owning almost every latest and fanciest gadgets and gizmo around BUT hates dealing with the technical aspect of making these little technical creatures work, that would be ME! I mean think about it, I shopped to buy digital cameras and I'm expecting the one I picked to be ready-for-use right from the box or case. Sorry, BUT I'm not the type who'd read the manual for hours before using my digital camera. I'd rather enjoy taking great pictures and images instead.

And that's exactly the reason why I fell in love with the Canon PowerShot A590IS! It sure looks serious and has this "It's meant for professionals!" feel to it. It's all black, looks classy, and sophisticated. BUT as a proud owner of a Canon PowerShot A590IS, I could confidently say that nothing could be farther from the truth. I can say that even a kid could make it work. Heck! I had my son; he's 10 years old by the way, take pictures of me while I'm at the beach in the Philippines and the pictures turned out to be great!

I don't know about you BUT it's definitely a testimony as to how intuitive and easy it is to use the functions and features Canon PowerShot A590IS. If your hands are too weak to even hold the camera up and press the button, then it might not work. BUT that's a different story. This addition to the PowerShot A-series is sure to top the charts this 2008 leaving other digital cameras from big names like Sony, Nikon, Kodak, and even Canon way behind.

What made the Canon PowerShot A590IS a breeze to use is the NEW Easy Mode.

As the name of this feature suggests, it makes taking pictures WAY easier by allowing Canon PowerShot A590IS to make optimal adjustments to the settings, changes in brightness, contrast, shutter speed, etc. on the fly.

And that results to great looking and amazingly detailed pictures even if it was shot by a 10-year old!

There are other features of Canon PowerShot A590IS that greatly compliment the Easy Mode feature it has.

And I think all of them are more than worth a look. Better yet, check this in-depth interview of Canon PowerShot A590IS where an avid geek and photographer dissects his A590IS.

Learn Video Game Design and Programming by Attending a Summer Camp

Thursday, March 12, 2009

The industry of video game design is an extraordinarily creative industry and very similar to the Hollywood movie making industry. A diverse group of people with a lot of different skills work together as a team to create a movie, and the same thing happens in the creation of a video game.

The Industry needs, and actively looks for people that are highly creative, great team players, and highly skilled in a variety of disciplines. This is a fact of life in the world of making games and it is a dramatic change from industries that have been around a long time. This is not our father's work world. It is exactly these three components that a summer camp offers a teen. It gives the attendees a creative environment where teamwork is developed and specific computer skills are learned.

If you are considering going to a camp for designing games there are a couple of things you should think about. First of all, the world of game making is very diverse and there are a lot of different programs and applications that can be used, so you have to consider what areas of game making you are interested and then look for a camp that covers that. A good example of what I mean is that you can learn how to design levels, program code, make java games, create 3d models, or any number of other things. There are also quite a few different programs that you could master from 3ds MAX for modeling to FPS Creator for level and game design. And what you want to do in the realm of game making will determine which skills and applications you should learn.

So, you should carefully consider what kinds of things about making video games appeal to you and try to find a camp that will fill that requirement. If you are a parent considering sending a teen or child to a camp you should spend time talking with him or her about what is interesting about video games. Chances are good he or she will know more about making games than you do. Your teen may like three-dimensional modeling, graphic design, writing or level design. This is a big factor in whether the camp will be a success or not. It's a matter of fulfilling individual goals and needs.

Your first course of action in looking for a summer camp should be to check with your local University or Community College. Just about every institution like this has summer learning programs for kids and teens. And unless you are already a student there you probably would never learn about the programs being offered so all it takes is a phone call and a request for a brochure. If geographic location is not a big concern for you there are plenty of top grade institutions that offer one week or two week long programs.

Summer camps are a great way to immerse a teen or child in the highly creative world of video game design and programming. It is a great way to get a feel for the career potential in the industry. And as a bonus he or she is actually going to come home from the camp with a real and complete video game that he or she made!

The Secret of How to Get Free Electricity at Home

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

The key to getting free electricity is using wind and solar power. That's what those energy companies do to provide you with electricity. Basically, they are using windmills and solar systems to make that power, then they are selling it to you. When you know how it works, you start to realize that you are getting ripped off, because you can do absolutely the same thing at home without any cost. So let's find out how.

First of all, just to give you a brief idea about what we are going to do, let me start with basics. There are two ways to produce electricity at home. The first method is by using the power of wind, and the second technique is by using Sun's energy - solar power. Both are great, and you should definitely take advantage of each. However, before you can start enjoying free power, there is some work to do.

Let's take the example of wind power. What you need to do here is make your own windmill. Sometimes people also call these machines as wind turbines. They are made to convert the wind into electricity, which can be used at home. These are actually quite easy to build, and if you have the right instructions, then pretty much anyone can do it. In regards of costs, the total price will be around $200 dollars. That's not really much, considering that it's only one-time investment, which will help you to save thousands of dollars in the future.

Solar panels, which are required to convert solar power into electricity are quite cheap and easy to build as well. So if you want that you are ready to make your own windmill and solar system, then I would recommend you to start with Earth4Energy guide, which has everything you need to begin and successfully finish your project. Time can not be put away or recalled; it is ever passing and always in short supply. When it comes to time we rarely use it to its fullest potential. Most of us, Nevertheless, have a very bad estimate of where their day goes.

When it comes to remembering time our brain can most of the time lead to misleading results.

This doesn't need to be the case. Some people routinely conduct an in depth look at their day to make sure they are not wasting any. The process can be made mechanical to relieve the annoyance, and if it is done consistently - and the results acted up on - it will guide you to a noteworthy betterment in performance. Because you will be focusing more of your cherished day on the chores that count.

Instead of standing around trying to remember the actions of the day, you should journal the day as it happens. First you could review the day and put the actions into different categories: selling, meetings, follow ups, Internet usage, report writing, telephone, referrals etc. You will be depressed at how much of your day is lost and not spent to your main job

Second ponder What would happen if this task was not done?" If the answer is not a single thing, then the course of action is clear. If not doing the exact action would have no good effect on your business, life, spirituality, relationship, job, what ever it is you are trying to manage your day for, then don't bother to do it. Nonetheless, most of the tasks will have some value, so you next need to debate: "Could someone else do this better?" Funny Animation

Animation is a very special media form. It allows the complete re-presentation of reality. Funny animation attracts attention of viewers to get into the purpose. Website, presentations, product demos, advertisements, public show must have some funny animation stuff to attract the reader or viewers. This is a very easy now with the help of computer, software and tools. Generating animation graphics and making it animated is also funny work. Animation may not be so powerful but widely used and appreciated. Funny animations are popular in computer games, Cartoon channels, blockbuster movies etc. Funny Animation is used to fill in the gaps when reality simply doesn't look real enough.

Funny Animation is the process of linking a series of slightly different funny cartoon drawings together to simulate a movement. There are normally 24 or less frames per second in moving film and it happens similar in animated GIFs you see on websites.

Techniques used for Funny Animations:

There are three different techniques types of cartoon animation: 1. Cel Animation cartoons are made on transparent sheets (celluloid) laid on top of each other to combine characters and backgrounds.
2. Stop Motion Animation is model or cartoons or puppet (or shadow) is shot a frame at a time, with tiny changes in positions.
3. Computer animation where computer is used for creating the shapes and colors of animated action, working from a series of mathematical codes, or can be drawn frame by frame cartoons.

Popular Usage of Funny Animation:

In User Interface design in software, web applications and websites, many funny animations are popularly used. The buttons, pop up stuff, comment box, help (like MS word help and search dog) are designed with animations that give a pleasure look at the animation. There are numerous funny animations are used in electronic advertisement on Internet and television media. Advertisers can make funny animation advertisement film without a human model. They can redirect the animation character to any extent. There are many cartoon animation films have been made in Hollywood film industry.

Making of Animations

Storyboards preparation is the first document work that conveys the list of task to be done sequentially. Making shapes body, faces, hands, legs, dress up and putting color are sequential steps. You can use some common shape, alphabets for making of face, flower, tree, house etc. Based on the distant of objects you have to draw the sizes of the objects or character. In computer you can repeat a partial drawing using mirror images effects. There are many effects, layer works can be designed for animating objects. Flip Book is a sample that can be used while making animation graphics in computer. You can draw frame by frame graphics and change in each frame like flip book sequential images. You will find a good animation of your drawing object.

Think of some funny sounds that match to your animation object movements or character movements. Funny sounds like laughs, claps, chains clanking, footsteps, doors creaking, whistle, wind, rain, thunder and lightening, barking dog etc. can be collected from libraries and incorporate in specific frames. To be a good funny animator, you need to think about how shapes can change and move with humorous way.

Stop Motion Animation - Mixing With Live Action

Sunday, March 8, 2009

Over 100 years ago a pioneer in stopmotion animation, (1892-1965), started making the first short movies with stopmotion animation after his experiments with documentaries on insects. One of his first movies the 1912 Khanzhonkov Company Moscow , produced "The Cameraman's Revenge" featured beetles and "infidelity" of all things!Ladyslaw Starewicz

Originally Starewicz would use wire legs to attach to the insects' bodies. Later he would use quiet intricate ball & socket armatures ( well before his time ) combined with leather and felt-covered puppets in place of the delicate "dried" insect carcasses. He further extended his characters to frogs and human like figures in "A series of Animated Figures executed by the Russian Art Society of Paris" in 1922. While these animations had no live action intermingled in them they set the stage for Stop motion animation movies to come.

In 1925 Willis O'Brien (1886-1952) wowed audiences with his effects work on a film adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World.

A precursor to this were some of O Brien's earlier stop motion animation works; notably "The Dinosaur and the Missing Link: A Prehistoric Tragedy" in 1915. . O Brien used clay animation characters in this movie.

Soon after he began work on a similar movie about people stranded on a deserted island full of dinosaurs. This feature was originally called "CREATION". Unfortunately, studio executives lost interest and dropped the project early on in production. They however did employ O' Brien and his special effects skills on a movie originally entitled "THE EIGHTH WONDER." The film was released in April 1933 under the title "KING KONG" a true classic for film history. This was undoubtedly one of the first mainstream successful movies to incorporate live action and stop motion animation. "Son of Kong" followed in December 1933 to equal acclaim.

Edward Nassour (1911-1962) the animation supervisor for the 1951 movie "Lost Continent" followed on now well established genre of mixing live action and stopmotion animation again with the theme of dinosaurs and monsters. Though the film was not as well received as previous such movies it did however keep the genre alive. "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms"

In 1953 he famous animator animated the enduring monster from "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms". This movie can be described as one of the original landmark Harryhausen film..with its theme of the atomic age monster movies. It spawned a whole eara of "certain Japanese monsters" created by atomic experiments in early days of the Atomic bomb.

Ray Harryhausen.

1970 saw the release of a movie based on a book by JG Ballard called "When Dinosaurs ruled the Earth". Master animator Jim Danforth created some memorable images in this movie and also later with Ray Harryhausen in "The Clash of the Titans" in 1981. The tradition of mixing stop motion animation with live action continued in the 80's with the sci-fi thriller "Dreamscape" (1984). A large snake man creature keeps chasing the lead character in his nightmares using puppetry but also stop motion animation. Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) employs stop motion in one pivotal scene to great effect.

However as the millennium came and went the genre of mixing live action and stop motion animation in major film releases gave way to CGI. There are still however many examples of live action and stop motion animation used in short movies, documentaries and commercials such as the Sony Bravia Commercial with animated bunnies running throughout New York. Or the Sony PSP commercial which featured objects in animation and live action rather than character or puppet animation. Its notable also that the preferred medium seems now to move towards object animation rather than the more time consuming character animation of what is now the last century.

Dermy O Reilly is an experienced StopMotion animator based in Ireland. He has worked as a consultant for a number of stopmotion animation software developers and wire frame armature manufacturers. Dermy is currently promoting a website to enthuse newcomers to stopmotion animation at StopMotionCentral.com

Badminton Racket Reviews

If your looking to buy a new badminton racket, chances are your going to look for some sort of review of it. There are hundreds of these reviews on the internet, and the best to look are the forums. This is all well and good, but you need to view these with a little caution.

The problem with online badminton racket reviews is that they are all personal. One size does not fit all. Every badminton player is different, with different style, technique and ability. Here is where the problem lies. If one person says that a badminton racket gives them more power, or control, how do you know it will do the same for you?

You don't. What you need to do is know your own game inside out. Only by knowing yourself will you be able to tell if a racket is going to suit your game.

Let me give you an example. The most expensive badminton rackets are designed for control, they predominantly have very stiff flexibility, which means you have to generate the power with your technique. These kinds of racquet are for advanced players, the manufacturer assumes you are good enough to use them, and you have to be, or else your game will probably get worse with these advanced rackets.

Now if you are a beginner or a novice player, reading an advanced players' review of these badminton rackets will not be much use to you. Many of the reviews are based on the top end models because people have spent a lot of money on them, and they want to tell the world all about them.

There are also other factors to consider, the most important being the string tension used in the review. Strings change the behaviour of rackets, period. Make sure the reviewer states the string tension used, this will give you more of an idea if it relates to your own game. If you don't know the importance of stringing tension, then just reading the review will be of little use to you. As i said before, you need to know your own game and ability beforehand.

This may sound a little negative, but take badminton racket reviews with a pinch of salt, they can only ever be a rough guide to you.

Find out all you need to know about badminton rackets at the badminton racket blog

Kindle Alternatives - The Sony Prs-505 E-Book Reader

Friday, March 6, 2009

The Sony Prs is one of the strongest rivals of the Amazon Kindle. Launched a few weeks after Kindle, Sony's e-book reader is quickly catching up in terms of sales and popularity. Both e-book readers basically share the same functions. The biggest difference in the features of the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Prs 505 would be their price, design, user friendliness, and readability.

One of the major differences is the price of these two models. Kindle cost about $100 more that the Sony model. Does the Kindle have any additional features that warrant this hefty premium? The main difference between the Amazon Kindle and any other e-book readers is Amazon's own wireless connectivity, Whispernet. This uses the mobile phone's 3G technology, enabling you to access the Amazon E-book store wherever you are. The Sony Prs-505 on the other hand uses normal WI-FI wireless technology. You will only be able to access Sony's E-book store though internet connection. Does this extra feature warrants the additional $100? You be the judge.

Another great difference between these two e-book readers is its design. The Amazon Kindle has a bright white exterior with a minimalist design. The Sony Prs 505 on the other has a metallic silver exterior, which is more sleek and thin-looking compared to the Kindle. Many reviews sited Sony's model as having a higher 'cool-factor' compared to the other models.

Personally, I think that one of the best features of the Sony Prs-505 is its user friendliness. Its user interface is shockingly simple and easy to use. Once connected to your PC, you can download over a dozen e-books in less than 2 minutes. There are nine buttons on the left side of the screen that allows you to easily access pages that you have book-marked. The only set back is that the page turns of the Sony Prs 505 is a little sluggish compared to Kindle.

Readability would be another highlight of the Sony model. The screen is bigger than the Kindle, which is a big plus. In addition to that, Sony has improved on the screen's readability under bright light where the words on the screen become more visible under bright lights. The screen contrast is sharp but yet easy on the eyes.

Disadvantages of Plasma TVs

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

While they certainly have their advantages, there are several disadvantages of a plasma TV that you need to know about. Educating yourself about these flat screen televisions will certainly help you in making your final decision. After all it's your money, you deserve to know the facts before spending it. I will share with you the first (3) you can read about the fourth on my blog.

Disadvantage # 1: Does size matter?

Plasma TV's are readily available in sizes 42" to 65". But what if you wanted something smaller? Perhaps your wall space or entertainment center will only accommodate a 37" TV? Or perhaps you want to put one in the bathroom so you can watch your favorite program while getting ready in the morning before work? Well then a plasma is not going to work in this scenario. Your only option if you still want a flat screen TV may be to go to an LCD TV.

Disadvantage # 2: Sunlight...Natures gift...The plasma's curse

Does your TV room have a lot of natural light coming through your windows? While this is wonderful thing to keep a room lively and cheerful, sunshine is the arch nemesis of the plasma TV. Why is this so? Simply put it is because the plasma screen is made of glass and can reflect a whole lot of light. What does this mean for you? Besides an annoying glare it could also contribute to a washout of color. Even indirect or ambient lighting can cause a contrast ratio reduction, especially in black colors produced on the screen. So if your heart is set on a plasma TV then look for room darkening shades and curtains that you can use during TV watching times. You also may want to look for a plasma with a glare reducing shield. The verdict is still out on these but every little thing will help. Otherwise you may opt for an LCD.

Disadvantage # 3: Were you planning on hooking up to your computer?

With the advent of downloading movies and video's on the Internet many people like the idea of using their flat screen as a huge monitor! Couple this with the use of an external hard drive to store hundreds of your favorite movie titles and it is apparent that you want a TV that can connect to your computer and get a High Def picture. Here is the thing. Many plasma TV's don't allow you to do this. So here is my recommendation. Check first. Some of the newer models will allow you to do this. Or you may have to go to the next model up from the one you are looking at to get this feature. Otherwise an LCD may be your only choice.

After reading this article you might think I don't like Plasma TV's and favor LCD. That is not necessarily the case because they both have their benefits and advantages. If you would like to read about the differences between a Plasma and LCD feel free to read our website article.

If you would like to read about the fourth disadvantage of plasma TVs then visit my Atlanta Home Theater blog

Home Automation - Convenience At Your Fingertips For Your Home

Sunday, March 1, 2009

The movies today, feature an amazing array of automated devices that seem quite impossible to have in the real world. These may not all be camera tricks; existence of some of the gadgets shown in the movies is quite possible with such a huge advancement in technology. Even a layperson can possess these automated devices and gadgets and use them in his home.

Home automation is available in most of the wealthy countries and people who have these devices and gadgets have become very dependent on them in daily life. There are some persons who feel that these are silly items involving a waste of money. However, yet others find them to be important and have different needs and uses for these home automation gadgets. Home automation gadgets can be divided into two categories depending upon their usage, namely for security purposes and for the convenience of the user.

1) Security:
The older models of alarm systems were not efficient, in the sense that they gave off an alarm only after the burglars broke into the house. This gave the burglars enough time to ransack the house and make good their escape before the police reached the place. With the newer alarm systems, there are built-in home automation features. For example, at the entry of an intruder, the lights in the house may come on, or you may be able to switch on the lights from your bedside, without having to go searching for the burglar, in the middle of the night.

It is an accepted fact that good lighting can prevent crimes. With home automated systems, you are anticipating the possibility of break-in and taking steps to prevent the crime from happening. If you are installing a home automated alarm system, you need not change any of the light fittings in your home. Just attach the gadget and it will do the job of keeping your premises safe from burglars and trespassers.

The traditional alarm systems are mainly designed to look after your property, but not you. You can have a control over the situation if you install a home automation system. Besides protecting your property, it will also prevent personal injuries from tripping or falling down the stairs, with the flick of just one switch.

2) Convenience:
We have become used to walking to and fro for switching on or switching off appliances or lights. It is a chore to turn on the lights, checking locks on doors and windows or turning on the heat switch in the mornings. Moreover, there are arguments in the house, as to who will be doing these jobs every time. With home automation and today's advanced technology, everything is accomplished with just one switch; this is the convenience offered by home automation.

A home automated system gives your home a neat and elegant look. You may switch on your television, the VCR, the lights and various other gadgets in your home with a switch or a remote control. If you wish to install a home automation system, you can request for professional help as there are many devices compatible with other items that can be put together to create a system suited to your needs.

One can learn about home automation products from the internet or through books. These are useful products that can improve your life and reading about them may prompt you to buy them. You can purchase do-it-yourself gadgets so that you can save on professional service fees. The first thing to do, however, is to identify the area that you would like to automate in your home. You can then invite a home automation company to give you an idea of the various products available and provide help in choosing the appropriate devices. Investment in home automation systems is beneficial even though the payback time is long.

PC Serial Port Home Automation - An Inexpensive Alternative

Saturday, February 28, 2009

Little things can turn your life topsy turvy. Imagine yourself driving to the office and, in the midst of heavy traffic, you remember than you have forgotten to turn on the home alarm system. Imagine another situation where you are supposed to give an important presentation and your have left your presentation material at home. These things can be extremely inconvenient. It could make a mess of your day. Naturally, all of us want our lives to be as problem free as possible.

Home automation systems are appealing because people like the idea of having everything under their control. More and more workaholic people, and even those who own huge houses, are considering the purchase of home automation systems. If you keep forgetting things, a home automation system can be a blessing for you. For example, if you have suddenly remembered that you have neglected to turn on the home alarm, you don't need to go back home just to turn it on. You can reach your home automation system via the Internet and activate your home alarm. So, a home automation system can make your life very easy to live.

Your home automation system can remind you about important appointments when you wake up in the morning. It can remind you to turn on the home alarm system or remember to take your presentation material to the office. Place a reminder on your home automation system and program it to remind you of particular jobs that need to be done.

Refreshing your memory and enabling you to turn on the home alarm system from a remote location are not the only ways a home automation system can serve you. You can program your system to turn on the lights of your house or any other electronic device at a time specified by you. For instance, you can arrange things so that everything in your house is set to relax you when you come home from a stressful day in the office. Program your climate control device to set itself at a comfortable level, your music system to play your favorite music, the garage and porch lights to turn on, and the coffee maker to prepare a cup of hot coffee for you. Arrange it so that when you reach home, you will find everything as you want it to be.

Though it sounds great, a home automation system is quite expensive. If you want to automate your entire house, you should spend thousands of dollars. People who just can't afford a sophisticated automation system are now turning to alternatives. A sophisticated automation system sounds tempting, but it could make you thousands of dollars poorer. This simple method, however, can give the same results. So, why spend thousands of dollars when you can achieve the same with a PC that you already own?

If you are interested in an alternative, you could purchase a simple device that connects your electronic devices to your personal computer. In addition, you also need to install a software into your computer, which enables the system to communicate with the connecting device.

As a practical person who cannot afford the automation systems in the market, you could try this method with success. All you need is your home computer, an automation software, and a connecting device. An automation system with a control panel controls only a few devices while a PC, as you know, is designed to manage a number of software.

If you want an inexpensive way to install a home automation system, get a device that is designed to be connected to your PC. This can be just as effective as a sophisticated home automation system; at the same time, you can get it at half the price. So, save plenty of money by purchasing a computer-based home automation system. A variety of devices are now available to convert your PC into a home automation system.

All About Home Theatre Speakers

A home theater is a combination of two types of media, video and audio. On the video side a home theater usually includes a big screen or a high definition TV set and a DVD or high definition DVD player. On the audio side, this system has a special receiver that has the ability to decode formats like Dolby Digital, and THX, and special speakers each positioned carefully.

If the home theater should have the capability to recreate the magic of movie theater, several speakers are required. In a normal home audio set up we have one receiver and two speakers. But in home theater we shall have more speakers.

The most common configuration for the best home theater is the 5.1 setup with right front channel, left front channel, a center channel, one channel that covers the left surround speakers and the one for left front channel. There is another low frequency channel that supports a sub woofer.

The front left channel speaker is extremely important and works with stereo. Both front left and right channels are sold in pairs and are quite powerful. The sound that comes from these two speakers is even because of the same dynamic range. Like the front left channel, the right channel speaker is able to handle a large range of signals.

The center channel speaker is usually located either underneath or above the television. It consists of one single speaker whose function includes handling mid range sound, and keeping the dialog in front. It is usually rectangular in shape.

The surround sound channel speakers are a set of two speakers situated behind the viewer or attached to brackets on the wall. The purpose of this speaker is to give the viewers a feel of the environment of the video.

The sub woofers can be placed anywhere in the room. A sub woofer can add to the enjoyment more by creating very low frequencies since it plays a major part in explosions, car engine sound, etc.

Now there are four types of home theater speaker systems. Home theater box set is the most common type. It usually includes 5 speakers and a separate sub woofer. This kind of speakers are extremely easy to set up. They are configured similar to each other to make sure that the audio is balanced and clear.

The second type of home theater satellite speakers are generally small sized speakers that are ensured to produce accurate sound. These kinds of speakers are perfect for small rooms. Just like the home theater box they come mostly with DVD players.

Customized home theater speaker is very popular because of the high-end components. These kinds of speakers are quite expensive and you will have to spend thousands for one individual speaker.

Home theater speaker system for computers is one of the emerging areas that is gaining popularity because of the interest in watching movies or downloading videos on computers. The price of these speakers is quite affordable.

More Information to Do With Wireless Outdoors Speakers

Friday, February 27, 2009

We all know how much fun it is just to relax outdoors with friends and family and either talk or just pass time. Some people prefer to barbecue and invite friends and family and just have a good time. The items you will find on a great outdoor expedition or outing is a barbecue pit and some music for most people. When it comes to music some people have someone playing music while in some occasions people simply carry their radios and other CD players and just have the music playing. Since people will probably not huddle in one place and will be spread out, there is a need to spread the speakers as well. This meant long wires. Sometimes the wires are simply not that long and this poses a limitation as far as the music is concerned. But recent advances in music technology has the picture changing with the advent of wireless outdoor speakers which do not require any wires to be connected between the receiver and the speakers themselves.

Wireless speakers employ more or less the same technology that is employed in cordless phone. The device or system consists of a tuner or receiver and then a set of speakers. The music player plays the tune and converts the CD signals from digital to analog. These signals are them transmitted into the air and a decoder usually located inside the speakers converts the signals into digital sound which we appreciate.

The technology behind how wireless outdoors speakers works allows the speakers to work on a range of 900 MHz which is almost the same as a good wireless or cordless phone. The signals can also travel through walls making the speaker placement extremely flexible. This means that the distance limitations imposed by wires are no longer present with wireless speakers. They can thus be placed anywhere and even away from where they can be damaged.

Wireless outdoor speakers can be purchased at most major electronic stores. The chances are if you can find a store that sells stereo equipment or home entertainment units then the chances are great that you will find a wireless outdoor speakers store. These speakers are especially popular with the same people who purchase iPods and other portable music devices. This is because they are the ideal and do not require one to even transport CDs.

EBay is another great place to purchase wireless outdoors speakers. This is because EBay is the largest market place on the planet and one would be hard-pressed not to find excellent speakers are extremely affordable prices.

Wireless outdoor speakers are also great for the indoors. This is because there are no cumbersome wires to contend with. One can also place the speakers away from the receiver and since the sound can traverse through walls, the speakers can be placed in different rooms from the tuner itself. This is ideal especially for people that want speakers in places like the kitchen or bedroom.

Use Photovoltaic Panels to Power Your Home

Photovoltaic panels, also known as photovoltaic cells or solar panels, seem to be the next biggest promise of this century. The rising prices of oil, coal, and electricity and their enormous amounts of pollution force us to find a solution. Right now, the solution looks like it is going to come from above. To be exact, from the sun.

Solar panels are devices that can generate electricity from the radiation of the sun. More accurately, from ultra violet rays that naturally come from the sun. Using a simple physical process, photovoltaic cells can generate a quite decent amount of energy. This incredibly useful energy can be used to power your home, and it has many advantages.

First, it is completely free. Sunlight does not cost any money, so using it to power your home does not require any money except the initial investment. This advantage brings in another advantage: your electricity bill shrinks. When you use a free resource to power your home, your dependence on the electric company goes down. As a result, you enjoy free energy and a reduced electricity bill.

Even the environment thrives when you install photovoltaic cells in your house. The sun does not pollute, and the process of using solar panels is clean as well. No carbon dioxide or any other pollutant is released when you use photovoltaic cells. As a result, you are not only saving money when you use solar panels, you also save the environment.

In conclusion, photovoltaic cells can be used for many purposes. When they are used to generate electricity for a house, they can save great sums of money and also easily save the environment from pollutants and the greenhouse effect.

To start using photovoltaic panels, you need a guide, like Earth4Energy, that shows how to use photovoltaic panels. You can pick it up at the Energy Department of Great-Info-Products.com.

Accepting DVR Technology When VCR Technology Still Works

Thursday, February 26, 2009

There is a dilemma with advances in technology. It is the cost of incorporating the new technology when earlier technology still seems to work. In the field of CCTV advances in digital recording and storage systems is forcing many to face the expense of replacing analog recording and storage. Where Video Cassette Recorders were once the rule, they are now being phased out by Digital Video Recorders as prices continue to fall and storage capacity continues to rise.

That is not to say that VCRs do not still have a place in the surveillance industry, just that there are fewer places that DVRs are not the better option. Because VCRs are so inexpensive today and so many people are comfortable with their use, they can still be a viable option for some end users. It's difficult to imagine though, large, complex CCTV installations that would today incorporate an analog-based VCR surveillance system with its complex system of tape storage and retrieval. However, in instances of a single camera and budget restraints, the VCR is still a viable option. Analog videotape is fragile, can wear very easily and deterioration occurs with each recording or with each generation of copying.

It is also slow to retrieve an event on tape even with time and date or alarm search modes. These are not issues with digital recording. Video Cassettes big advantage remains to be the prevalence of VHS machines in police stations and court rooms. The proliferation of different digital units makes it difficult for the authorities to support them all but as advances are made this issue will be addressed as well. The two most common reasons for choosing digital over video recorders are quality of the recordings and the ease of search and retrieval of events.

An industrial VCR can be set to record with small intervals between images to compress 24 hours of recording on a three-hour tape, as opposed to the continuous recording of a domestic unit. This however creates a strobe light effect when playing it back which may not be acceptable in some situations. Many end users are content with a 24-hour recording capability although some VCRs are feature-rich enough to provide 168 hour and 960 hour recordings. Customers that require recording over weekends and similarly extended periods value these options.

The greatest weakness of the VCR is poor tape management. A stock of high quality tapes must be stored and handled correctly as well as replaced daily. Such shortcomings are not the fault of the storage system itself but rather the operation. Over using a tape is in itself results in poor recordings which are not such an issue with digital recorders. Maintaining a VCR based system can be time consuming compared to that of a digital based system.

A DVR records images onto an internal hard disk, ensuring high quality, clean, undistorted reproduction. Ease of search and retrieval of an event as related to time and date or alarm. Some products allow search for motion in a camera while still recording.

DVRs are either PC based units running either Linux or Windows or Black Box units that use proprietary operating systems and have a conventional CCTV interface to the user.

As the hard disk capacity of DVR systems continues to rise, the initial high cost of a hard disk compared with a VCR tape is no longer a major issue to end user adoption of Digital Video Recorders. Users with very large storage requirements, such as banks and other financial institutions, can incorporate groups of hard drives to provide the ideal solution, capable of archiving months of easy-to-search footage or one month of higher rate recording.

The industry is obviously moving forward with digital recording and its many advantages over analog tape; i.e.: their ease of use, search functionality, network compatibility, picture quality, the security of the image and the opportunity to break free of the limit of recording a maximum of 25 frames per second. Digital recording is the ideal solution in diverse situations such as retail, banking commercial offices and industrial facilities. To date it is unsurpassed in providing evidential image quality required by police forces worldwide and the ease with which archived images may be retrieved has made DVR immediately popular with the security industry and end user. It is the obvious choice for any new prestigious installation, but also offers the perfect upgrade route for one using a VCR with or without a multiplexer. And now with Pre-Event? recording available, (the capture of lead-in views to an event), something unavailable on VCRs, there is yet one more reason to make the advance.

Partly due to the high processing power required to handle large volumes of CCTV images, the security industry is one of the last industrial sectors to latch onto PCs. High processing power has only recently become available on an affordable PC. However, since PCs are so common place many end users are having little difficulty in making the transition. Embedded software in DVR units is sufficiently sophisticated for an operator with limited PC knowledge to grasp it with ease. Simple operational controls and familiar looking drop down menus ease the learning curve as well.

A DVR really comes into its own when a rapid recall of archive image is required. Instead of investing hours retrieving an image capture, archived footage can be searched and an image retrieved in a matter of seconds. Other features unavailable on VCR are fast forward and reverse play, giving even further functionality.

The single most important advantage however, is network compatibility, which gives users the option of remote monitoring, control and access to archived images. Every communications network that supports the IP protocol is accommodated including Ethernet (LAN and WAN). Care must be taken however, to be certain that control of images accessible across a network are secured and protected from tampering. This is possible by using digital watermarking compression technology. A far cry from the physical security required to protect VHS tapes.

As with approaching any new technology for the first time, there is new terminology to understand. Training is therefore necessary, and many companies such as 2Mcctv, offer suitable courses to equip installers with the technical and product knowledge they need.

As with approaching analog systems, consider first the requirements of the installation. What am I as the end user wishing to accomplish. Is storage necessary? What would be the purpose of storing images (security, staff management)? What volume of images needs to be recorded and archived from how many cameras? Can the staff be relied upon to manage either an analog system or digital system? And, do the images need to be archived off site or accessed from elsewhere?

Whereas analog is ideal for small, single site, cost conscious installations where deterrence is the primary requirement and staff can be relied upon to keep up with tape management, digital is the preferred solution wherever the recording of high quality images is essential. Connectivity to a network, integration to other systems such as ATMs, and size and complexity of the installation are also determining factors as well as high recording capacity.

In reality, the storage device is only one aspect of a much larger installation. Storage options must consider the whole system and all its complexities before a decision should be made.
